Cardiovascular Problems

Blood Pressure Issues

High blood pressure — also known as hypertension — is the most common heart and blood circulation related disease.

The heart sends blood across your body at the normal pressure. When this blood pressure elevates, it can hurt the arteries (the tubes that carry blood from the heart to other parts of the body) and lead to life-threatening conditions.

Symptoms

There are no symptoms of hypertension in the early stages. Even after years of having the problem, people may not realize its presence, and even later, when some symptoms appear, they are often attributed to other issues.

Severe hypertension may have symptoms like :

  • Headache
  • Short of breath
  • Nosebleed
  • Flushing
  • Dizziness
  • Pain in chest
  • Visual changes
  • Blood in the urine

Ischemic Heart Disease

Also known as — Coronary Artery Disease — occurs when a buildup of plaque narrows these arteries, decreasing blood flow to the heart; the reduced blood flow causes chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, or other coronary artery disease signs and symptoms. A complete blockage often causes a heart attack.

Symptoms

Ischemic Heart Disease shows no symptoms initially, but when it develops further, there are alarming signs, and one should see the doctor immediately. These symptoms are:

  • Chest pain (angina)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart attack

Congestive Heart Failure

Congestive Heart Failure occurs when the heart muscle can not pump blood properly. Coronary artery disease and high blood pressure leave the heart too weak to fill and pump the blood efficiently. It can be chronic or acute.

Symptoms

  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Swelling in legs, ankles, and feet
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • A decrease in the ability to exercise
  • Persistent cough or puffing with white or blood-tinged phlegm
  • Increased need to urinate at night
  • Swelling in the abdomen
  • Rapid weight gain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Difficulty in concentrating
  • Chest pain often caused by a heart attack

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic lung condition that makes breathing troublesome. It's a group of lung-related diseases; the two most common diseases are:

Emphysema:

This condition occurs because of complexities in the breathing-system. Air gets trapped in the lungs, and one can’t breathe it out and feels short of breath.

Chronic bronchitis:

A long term condition of coughing, shortness of breath, and mucus for up to 2 years may be an indication of chronic bronchitis. In chronic bronchitis, it becomes harder to get rid of mucus, which causes more coughing and creates more mucus.

Atrial Fibrillation

An irregular heartbeat that increases the risk of stroke and heart disease is a sign of Atrial Fibrillation.

Symptoms

The symptoms include dizziness, weakness, and fatigue.
